TSARSKOYE SELO. PUSHKIN

In 1708 Peter I offered a Swedish country-house to his wife Ekaterina Alexeevna. In 1717-1723 the construction of a palace began, and after 1725 the initial country-house turned into a full-blown imperial residence.

The church Znamenskaya (1734) is the oldest building in town. The Palace Bolshoi Ekaterininsky is a prime example of Russian baroque style designed by the architect B. Rastrelli. You can also find next to the palace in Ekaterininskiy Park Kholodnye Bani with its Agatovy Pavilion, Visatchiy Garden, and Kameronova Gallery.

Alexandrovskiy Palace which is located in Alexandrovskiy Park was designed by D. Kvarnegi, and was the last residence of the Russian emperors.

In 1811 Tsarskoselskiy Lycee, where A.S Pushkin studied, opened in Tsarskoye Selo.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Fyodorodvkiy Gosudarev cathedral, which presents a unique mosaic, was erected in Tsarskoye Selo.
